The transformation of large buildings into smart buildings is closer and closer. The modification of Royal Decree 178/2021 has recently been approved, which aims to reduce primary energy consumption by 39.5% in 2030, meeting the climate objectives established in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030 (PNIEC ).
This new regulation introduces new directives and modifies existing ones, in order to homogenize the terms in terms of building and energy efficiency, aligning Spanish regulations in this regard with those of other European countries.
One of the regulations refers to non-residential buildings with high energy consumption, for which it is stipulated that “When technically and economically feasible, non-residential buildings with a useful nominal power for heating, cooling, combined heating installations and ventilation, or for combined cooling and ventilation installations of more than 290 kW, they must be equipped with building automation and control systems ”, these being the ones that will take the first step to become intelligent buildings, digitizing the facilities with the aim of reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition, among other aspects of the regulations, all buildings that undergo a reform must incorporate green energy, replacing fossil equipment with other renewable ones.
Automation systems such as ROBOTBAS are consolidated with this regulation as a great option, since, controlling from the industrial zone of an installation to the automation of rooms and common areas as a single block, energy consumption can be reduced by up to 30%, being much more respectful with the environment.
This update of the Regulation of Thermal Installations in Buildings (RITE), approved by the Council of Ministers on March 23, 2021 and published in the BOE, will come into force as of July 1, 2021.
